Jamie
Jamie helps manage a few acres of meadow and trees at his UU church, working to create a sustainable and healthy habitat for wildlife using native plants and trees. He likes to hike and travel, sing in the church’s choir, and works out on most days, lap swimming several times a week. Jamie and his wife, Claire, have two grown children, a granddaughter, a sweet old black cat named Watson.
Claire
Claire is married with two grown children and has been practicing tai chi since 2009. She loves reading, baking, playing with her grandaughter, and hanging out with her cat. She also volunteers at Winterthur Museum (https://www.winterthur.org/).
Julia
Julia is a reading interventionist and mother of two boys. She has lived in seven different countries and loves to hike, swim, bike, read, and garden with native plants. Julia also crews on the Kalmar Nyckel, Delaware’s tall ship (https://www.kalmarnyckel.org/).
Lorraine
Meet Lorraine, a former HR executive with a career spanning K-12 education and the biotech fields. Originally from Philadelphia and currently living near Annapolis, Maryland, she is returning to her family's historic 1700s stomping grounds in New Castle County. Her deep genealogy research revealed that two of her ancestors served in the Delaware Militia during the Revolutionary War.
Lorraine has been a passionate champion of intentional living and cohousing for over 30 years. She is also the proud mother of an adult daughter adopted rom Russia. An avid adventurer, she hikes National Parks annually with a tight-knit group of female friends—with the New River Gorge up next on their list. She is looking forward to checking off a major bucket list item by attending the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October 2026, and she frequently visits Ireland, with her next return trip already booked for 2027. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she also recently signed up for ukulele lessons.
For Lorraine, joining this community is more than just a move; it is a
meaningful return home. "I’m looking forward to a richer, more active
retirement where connection and shared experiences are part of everyday life," she shares. Having spent decades studying intentional communities and staying in cohousing common houses during her travels, she was instantly drawn to this group's small-town warmth, collaborative spirit, and the historic charm of Newark.
Denise
I grew up in Maryland and currently live in southern New Jersey. I am recently retired as a librarian from a local university. Prior to moving to New Jersey in 2015, I lived in Delaware for 24 years. I am planning to move back to Delaware in the next few years to be closer to my daughter in Wilmington and my elderly father in Maryland.
Judy
Judy recently retired from working in strategy and business planning in the health care industry. She is married with two adult daughters and two dogs. Judy enjoys giving back to the community by serving on non-profit boards and through other volunteer leadership roles. She loves hiking in the woods and vacations every year with family and friends in the north woods of Ontario, Canada.
Terrianne
Terrianne is a professor at the University of Delaware and a mom to two boys. At UD, she is dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming classroom for students of diverse backgrounds in environmental science, physical geography, and atmospheric science. Through real-world examples and active engagement in current environmental issues, she guides students in exploring the historical and current causes, philosophies, and ethics behind global environmental challenges, climate change, and justice. Her commitment to sustainable, community-focused living inspires her to develop a cohousing community built on shared values and collaboration.
